Lyft Rolls Out New Preorder Feature to Speed Up Airport Pickups

Lyft is looking to improve the airport experience for its customers by offering a new feature just ahead of the busy summer travel season. The company is launching an airport pre-order feature at some of the biggest travel hubs across the country.

As of Thursday, riders at Los Angeles International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International and Midway International airports are able to pre-order a ride upon landing. The app tracks the rider as they walk through the airport and then match them with a driver as they get closer to the pickup spot.

The app takes into account the wait times through the airport, including baggage claim. The goal is to have the driver arrive as the passenger gets to the pickup area, and cut down long wait times. This also means riders can lock in the rates offered when they make the booking, and do not need to worry about a surcharge if takes a long time to get from the arrival gate to the curb.

The new feature is expected to roll out to airports in Austin, New York-JFK and Seattle by the end of the month. It is expected to expand t more airports soon after that.

Riders will also be able to connect to Apple Calendar or Google Assistant in order to get travel notifications for when to leave for the airport. Flight and terminal info will automatically appear in the Lyft app as well, the company announced.
