List of Airline Alliances (updated July 7, 2026) – Pointshogger

Quite a few airlines shuffled around since my last update. I also added a blurb to this frequently updated points with the benefits of airline alliances.

Benefits of Airline Alliances

Airlines alliances have been such a blessing in the travel world. It connects much of the world together to make travel more convenient. Some of the major advantages are as follows:

  • Being able to earn and rewards miles/points with airline partners. Basically, regardless of which airline you fly with within the alliance, you can pick one frequently flyer program to bank all earnings to. Furthermore, you can redeem your miles/points towards reward flights on any of the member alliances. However, it is subject to availability and in some cases, limited reward flight options.
  • Being able to book multiple airlines on one itinerary on a single ticket is an amazing benefit. Especially if you have check-bag, there should be seamless baggage transfers from airline to airline.
  • Certain cost efficiencies are passed along to customers. Such as airline members can share operational facilities and negotiate in bulk volume. The cost savings would really only be passed along as long as there is competition between airline alliances.
  • In some cases, there are cross benefits when you have elite status with one member airline, you can potentially benefit from some of the advantages with other member airlines.

As you can see, it is not a perfect system, but it does offer a lot of potential for collaboration between airlines which overall, I find, makes travel much more enjoyable.

Historical Datapoints

There are 3 major worldwide airline alliances, as well as 1 regional alliance (previously 3) that we will mention further down the post. Below is is a list of all the previous posts that we have written if you are curious what the alliances looked like back in the day:

Blogging allows us to keep track of information from the past, as generally most company websites only post current information.

Major Airline Alliances

Below is a list of member airlines for each alliance. The changes from last time are specified with notes in brackets or struck-through (if no longer a member). There were several changes throughout the three major airline alliances this time, which triggered the update today.

Regional Airline Alliances

There is only one remaining Regional Airline Alliance. I am somewhat concerned that the major alliances are becoming very top heavy. I was hoping one of the Regional Airlines Alliances would have grew significantly to compete with the major airlines.
