Lisa Marie Presley’s memorial service at Elvis Presley Graceland estate attended by hundreds

A public memorial service for Lisa Marie Presley got underway Sunday on the Graceland lawn, less than two weeks after the only child of Elvis Presley died at age 54.

Among the hundreds at the Memphis service were Presley’s mother, Priscilla Presley, and eldest daughter, Riley Keough. Austin Butler, who portrayed Lisa Marie Presley’s father in the 2022 movie “Elvis,” also attended, as did the film’s director, Baz Luhrmann, according to People.

“We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the love, compassion and support you have shown our family during this difficult time,” the Presley family said in a message on the service’s programs. “We will always be grateful.”

Lisa Marie Presley will be laid to rest Sunday at the Meditation Garden at Graceland, the former home of Elvis Presley. A procession to the burial site is scheduled to follow the memorial service.

A singer-songwriter like her father, Lisa Marie Presley died Jan. 12. Her official cause of death was deferred by a coroner following an autopsy shortly after her death, according to CNN.

Images published by TMZ last week showed Presley would be buried next to her only son, Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide in 2020. Her burial site is also close to Elvis Presley’s grave near a fountain outside the Graceland mansion.

Sunday’s service began with Jason Clark & The Tennessee Mass Choir singing “Amazing Grace.” Sarah, Duchess of York, spoke at the memorial.

Lisa Marie Presley was 9 when Elvis died in 1977. She is survived by three daughters, including Keough, an actress in films such as “It Comes at Night” and “Zola.”

Presley released three albums between 2003 and 2012 and was famously married to pop star Michael Jackson from 1994 to 1996. She married actor Nicolas Cage in 2002 but the couple split up after just a few months. Her younger daughters, 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley, are from her marriage to Michael Lockwood.

Two days before her death, Presley attended the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif., where Butler won best actor in a drama film.

“Thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me,” Butler said during his acceptance speech. “Lisa Marie, Priscilla — I love you forever.”

Luhrmann received insight from Lisa Marie Presley while making his movie about her father, the director told the Daily News last year.

“She knew her father’s vibe, but it’s one thing to grow up not knowing your father and having lost him,” Luhrmann said in June.

“It’s another thing that one half of the world thinks he’s a god and the other half thinks he’s a Halloween costume and a joke. It came home to me how difficult that’s been for her, and then somewhat the lifting of that burden has really come home for me, too.”
