The Long Island Association’s annual State of the Region is set for Friday, Jan. 5, at 8 a.m. at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

This year’s featured speakers include Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Suffolk County Executive-Elect Ed Romaine, and former U.S. Congressman Peter King.

Each year the LIA invites the region’s two county executives to address the business community, and share updates on goals and major initiatives for the next 12 months.

King, who served 14 terms in the House of Representatives, was invited as this year’s influential leader and will focus on such issues as “homeland security and the war on terrorism, law enforcement, and the economy,” according to a news release from the LIA about the event. Last year, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer spoke at the event.

“The LIA is a non-partisan organization and collaborates with elected officials seeking to move our economy forward,” Matt Cohen, LIA President and CEO, said in the news release.

“We are eager to hear about the regional priorities of our local governments directly from Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman once again, and for the first time as Suffolk County Executive, Ed Romaine,” Cohen added. “Congressman King is renowned for working across the aisle to get things done and brings a unique perspective on federal policies and how they impact Long Island, particularly in a presidential election year.”

Larry Waldman, LIA board chair, said in the news release that the “State of the Region is a long-time signature LIA event and offers an opportunity for our members to hear directly from elected officials about their plans for 2024, and network with other business leaders as they pursue their own goals for the new year. I thank the 2024 speakers for their time and look forward to their current thoughts.”
