How much fun must it be to be Elon Musk today? You are a billionaire in your early fifties, you can do or go anywhere you want, and you now own Twitter, one of the largest social media platforms in the world, where your stated goal is to make it a beacon for free speech.

And as an extra added bonus, it is driving the left completely insane. Pinch yourself.

The left is whining about a lot of things pertaining to this purchase, but the most ridiculous is those who are feigning outrage about billionaires owning news and information outlets. When did they become concerned with that? Oh yeah, last night.

As progressive journalist Glenn Greenwald pointed out, “journalists” at outlets owned by billionaires like Jeff Bezos or Laurene Powell Jobs, the wife of the late Steve Jobs, are suddenly quite upset that billionaire Musk owns Twitter.

Free Speech? We Can’t Have Free Speech!

But the best part is, the “experts” have now been called in to analyze what the impact will be of people on one single social media site actually being able to say what they think, rather than being censored.

A recent Political Insider report stated that Musk had openly discussed laying off roughly 75% of Twitter employees.

So the “experts” determined that, “While details of the potential layoffs remain limited, the move could compromise the platform’s capacity to police false or harmful content, with ramifications that extend to social issues like election integrity.”

Translation: if Musk lays off three quarters of Twitter employees, there won’t be enough people to, #1, deem themselves the arbiters of what is “false” or “harmful,” because who else but a 20 or 30 something with an IT degree and no life experience would be best to determine that?

And #2, not having enough employees to censor what people see could have long lasting harmful effects, like forming opinions for themselves, and posting them.

But perhaps nothing sums up “experts” like Zeve Sanderson, executive director at New York University’s Center for Social Media and Politics who philosophized, “Content moderation will be a lot harder without people doing content moderation.”

The ‘Right Kind’ Of Billionaires

As Glenn Greenwald so rightly pointed out, all of the “journalists” who have made careers working at the newspaper that Jeff Bezos owns, or the magazine that Laurene Powell Jobs owns, apparently were perfectly OK with those billionaires directing the information traffic. What’s the difference?

While maybe not much is known about the personal political leanings of Bezos or Jobs, what is known is that the publications they own are left leaning. While Musk is certainly no conservative, he has made his views on being woke and cancel culture known, and his reasoning for buying Twitter has remained consistent.

On Thursday he stated, “The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.”

Elon Musk’s new acquisition was full of ironic hilarity by those who are OK with free speech for themselves and those they agree with, but not for you.

A non-billionaire explained how one becomes a billionaire.

So, is this only for billionaires who advocate for free speech? I’m confused. Another had a public service announcement.

Still others also needed some clarification.

And finally, just a bit of good advice.
