King Charles III has appointed The Right Honourable Andy Burnham MP as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and First Lord of the Treasury on July 20th, following the resignation of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Andy Burnham is His Majesty’s fourth Prime Minister after Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, and Sir Keir.
The outgoing Prime Minister gave his formal resignation to King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, which was followed by a half-hour period when the King was Absolute Monarch of the United Kingdom, until he received Andy Burnham.
The Rt. Hon. Sir Keir Starmer MP had an audience of The King this morning and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury which His Majesty was graciously pleased to accept.
Lady Starmer was also received by The King.
After officially requesting him to form a government and become Prime Minister, Mr Burnham accepted His Majesty’s offer and was appointed Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
His Majesty received in audience the Rt. Hon. Andrew Burnham MP and requested him to form a new Administration. The Rt. Hon Andrew Burnham MP accepted The King’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
Ms. Marie-France van Heel was also received by His Majesty.
