WASHINGTON — Kim Kardashian gave a health update in a recent interview following last week’s announcement of her brain aneurysm diagnosis.
In an interview with “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, the 45-year-old reality TV and business mogul shared details about her diagnosis.
“You’ll see in the next episode [of ‘The Kardashians’], I did go and get a Prenuvo scan. And I had to end up going and getting tons of other brain scans at Cedars[-Sinai] with all the team,” the SKIMS founder told GMA host Robin Roberts. “Just tune in next week, but everything works out.”
Though Kardashian kept her comments brief, she did highlight the importance of prioritizing health.
“It’s just a good measure to go; make sure that you always check everything,” she urged, adding, “And health is wealth, and you just have to be careful with everything that you do.”
Kardashian revealed her medical diagnosis in the Season 7 premiere of “The Kardashians.”
“There’s like a little aneurysm,” the reality star said in the season premiere, which dropped on Hulu at midnight on Oct. 23.
“They’re like, ‘It’s just stress,’ Kardashian told her sister Kourtney Kardashian. “And I’m like, people think that I have the luxury of walking away.”
A video of Kardashian in the hospital, undergoing an MRI, played alongside the discussion, showing when she was first diagnosed. Kardashian said she believed the health issue was at least partially caused by her tumultuous divorce from rapper Kanye West, known legally as Ye.
The 45-year-old mother of four has been open about her health, saying that her psoriasis — a skin condition that causes thick, scaly patches — was also caused by stress from her relationship with West.
Despite the potentially deadly medical scare, Kardashian is apparently feeling better now after what she described as one of the hardest weeks of her life.
“I’m happy it’s over,” she said in a confessional during the episode.
What is a brain aneurysm?
An aneurysm is a small bulge or dilation in the wall of a blood vessel. They can be caused by weakened blood vessel walls, leading to an abnormal shape forming. When they form in the brain, they can be particularly dangerous.
When an aneurysm ruptures, it causes sudden, severe bleeding into the surrounding tissues.
That kind of bleeding is especially deadly in the brain because it can damage brain cells and increase pressure in the skull, causing coma or even death.
But according to the Mayo Clinic, most aneurysms don’t burst at all.
On the clinic’s web page for the condition, it notes that they “usually don’t cause symptoms or cause health problems. In many people, brain aneurysms are found during tests for other conditions.”
An unruptured aneurysm can be excised with surgery or treated with blood pressure medication to decrease the chance of a rupture.
“However, if an aneurysm ruptures, it can quickly become life-threatening and requires emergency treatment,” the Mayo Clinic says.
