Jason Kelce may not be a safety on the Philadelphia Eagles, but he’s concerned for brother Travis Kelce’s nonetheless. While Jason is a center, it’s little brother Travis who’s been the center of attention lately amid his rumored romance with Taylor Swift.
Speaking with NBC Sports’ Peter King after work (that would be a nationally televised football game) Sunday evening, Jason shared that while he’s “really, really happy for my brother,” he’s also little worried about the level of scrutiny he’s facing. “This is another level of stardom that typically football players don’t deal with.”
“It’s certainly been weird, the level that it is now,” he said. “On one hand, I’m happy for my brother that he seems to be in a relationship that he’s excited about, that he is genuine about. But there’s another end of it where it’s like, ‘Man, this is a lot.’ There’s paparazzi talking about him fueling his car before the game today and I’m like, ‘Is that really necessary information to share?’”
“There’s some, I think, alarms sometimes with how you know, over-in-pursuit people can be,” Jason said. “Overall, he can deal with some of this. As long as it’s not, you know, becoming a threat to his safety and things like that.”
Travis recently purchased a new home in Kansas City for $6 million, reportedly in search of more privacy, turning to a gated community for his next abode. Physically, however, fans have noticed that he can hold his own, even catching some comments for seemingly pushing Swift’s security out of the way to usher her into a car on a recent night out in New York City. Travis, for his part, insisted on his podcast last week, “I didn’t push them. I placed my hand on the gentleman’s back to let him know I was behind him. If I would have pushed him he probably would have turned around and Tased me.”
On the latest episode of the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast, released Wednesday, Jason ribbed Travis about comments Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid made about Swift’s attendance at the weekend’s game. In a post-game press conference, Jason reported, Reid responded to stats showing Kelce’s explosive performance when Swift was around versus merely great stats without her, “Kelce gets better with time. Taylor can stay around all she wants.”
“What a guy,” Travis said, laughing. “Listen, when you’re getting Big Red’s approval and blessings, you know you’re doing something right.”
