Next up for Blumhouse and Jason Blum is ‘The Exorcist’, as a new sequel is in the works with plans to start production soon. Serving as a follow-up to the original movie, the film brings back original Exorcist’ star Ellen Burstyn to reprise her role.

In a new interview with Variety, producer Jason Blum spoke on the film saying “We are getting ready to make it. Hopefully, we will do the same thing with The Exorcist that we did with Halloween – make it in a way that’s fresh and worth revisiting. And feels different enough so that people are happy we did it.”

Lidya Jewett has been cast to star opposite Ellen Burstyn in the direct sequel which is still set to arrive in theaters on October 13. She will be joining Leslie Odom Jr. and Ann Dowd. The sequel will be produced by Jason Blum, David Robinson, and James Robinson, with Green, McBride, and Couper Samuelson set to executive produce.
