Curtis, who portrayed Lohan’s onscreen mother in the beloved film “Freaky Friday,” revealed that a much-anticipated sequel to the hit movie is currently on hold due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, per Entertainment Weekly.

“Oh, it’ll happen. For sure. Oh, for sure. There’s no question,” Curtis told the news outlet, referring to the long-awaited “Freaky Friday 2.”

“Yes, except stories require writers, and right now, there are no writers because they’re all fighting for their lives, creative lives, emotional lives, and financial lives,” she shared.

The “Everything Everywhere All At One” actress went on, “We’re in the middle of a contract dispute. And so, until those writers get paid correctly and protected by the producers that make billions off them, we will not be able to tell you more about the ‘Freaky Friday’ sequel, except that it is happening.”

The Writers Guild of America, representing thousands of screenwriters, has been engaged in a strike to secure fair payment and protections for its members. They were recently joined by the Screen Actor’s Guild, SAF-AFTRA, in solidarity to demand better pay amid a new age of streaming and the quickly advancing use of AI technology.
