Action News sports anchor Jamie Apody, whose employment status had been a mystery since she last appeared on air last October, will officially leave 6abc.

Apody, in a statement provided by the station Friday, said she is looking forward to exploring new opportunities after working at 6abc for the past 18 years.

“I am so grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love, support, and concern shown to me over the past 5 months while I made a decision about my future,” Apody said. “It has been the greatest pleasure to cover some of the best sports teams in the world and share my reporting and storytelling with our fans. Please be assured that all is well with me and my family. I am excited about the next chapter in my career, and I look forward to working on new ways to engage with my audience on topics that energize and celebrate our teams.”

During her time off the air, Apody’s work email had a bounce-back message saying she was on a leave of absence. During that period, neither she nor 6abc commented on her employment status.

The station has been operating with just sports director Ducis Rodgers and newcomer Gabriella Galati, who was hired last July. Galati technically filled the vacancy created when sports anchor and reporter Jeff Skversky quietly left the station in 2022 after 13 years under similarly mysterious circumstances.

Apody, born and raised in Los Angeles, switched coasts to join the Action News sports team as a reporter/anchor in 2006. During her time with the station, she has covered the Phillies 2008 World Series win, Eagles 2017 Super Bowl victory, Flyers 2010 season appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals, and the 2016 and 2018 Villanova Wildcat NCAA tournament championships.

Before joining 6abc, Apody worked as the sports director at KDBC in El Paso, Texas. There she was named the 2005 Sportscaster of the Year by El Paso Inc. She began her career as a sports producer at KNBC in Los Angeles where she covered the NBA and the Lakers, including the team’s memorable run of three straight NBA Championships. Apody also covered the Angels’ World Series title, and the Ducks’ run to the Stanley Cup Finals. She received a degree in communications from UCLA in Los Angeles.

6abc (WPVI-TV) is owned and operated by ABC, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS).
