It’s Coming from Inside the House!, the Museum of Pop Culture’s horror film watchalong, is expanding its list of 100 Horror Films To See Before You Die. Working with our horror community we’ll dig back into the list, see what we missed, and explore how we can start the work of updating the list every year to include the best the horror genre has wrought from the depths of darkness.

Each watchalong we’ll have a new guest pick a film to watch that they feel deserves a spot on the list as it expands, and they’ll join the watchalong to make the case for its inclusion.

At 7 p.m. PT this Friday, July 17, MoPOP Manager of Public Engagement Robert Rutherford is joined by guest Kelly Sue DeConnick, writer of some of the most exciting titles in modern comics, including the Carol Danvers rebranding as Captain Marvel, the Eisner-nominated Pretty Deadly, and Bitch Planet. Kelly Sue chose this month’s selection, Tremors, a loving nod to the creature features that dominated cinema projectors in the 1950s and a fantastic touchstone in Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon games.

Here are a handful of program elements you can expect to see:

  • Pre-film introduction with Robert Rutherford, MoPOP’s Manager of Public Engagement, and special guest, Kelly Sue DeConnick
  • Cheap-as-heck quarantine cosplay (here’s some graboid inspiration!)
  • Cocktails, mocktails, and beer pairing recommendations
    • Cocktail pairing – What to do with graboids once they’ve been vanquished? Here’s a recipe for a Grey Gusano to make the most of all of those worms!
    • Mocktail pairing – Get your feet up off the floor with a virgin margarita
    • Beer pairing –  Grab a can of Coors Banquet and tip back your hat

  • Chat with the host, special guest, and other fans during the film
  • Post-film discussion on the film’s enduring influence on the genre and why it deserves a spot on our list 100+ Horror Films to See Before You Die

If you happen to own a copy of the film, get it queued up at 7 p.m. PT this Friday! Otherwise, here’s where you can find Tremors online:
