A Bill that would legalise the personal use of cannabis in Ireland is set to go before the Dáil later this month.

It will be the first time in 10 years that legislation around ending the prohibition on cannabis will be before the Dail.
People Before Profit TD Gino Kenny said that his party will soon introduce the Cannabis Regulation and Control Bill 2022, which would decriminalise cannabis for personal use.
Mr Kenny has fought for medical cannabis access since he was elected to the Dáil in 2016, and played a major role in launching Ireland’s current five-year medical cannabis pilot program, which allows patients with certain conditions to apply to use medical cannabis.
The Dublin Mid-West TD said that the ‘relatively short Bill’, which is likely to be available to the public next week, will amend the current legislation on possession of cannabis as outlined in the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.
However, Mr Kenny said that the Bill doesn’t reference cultivation, which he said can be included at a future date “which we intend to do,” adding “sale and supply is for another day”.
