IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. – Two individuals were arrested after Iredell County Sheriff deputies discovered over 162 pounds of marijuana and multiple firearms in their utility trailer, according to a news release.

The release states that on May 20, a traffic stop on I-77 South was conducted on a Yukon pulling a U-Haul utility trailer for a traffic violation. Deputies say they noticed discrepancies in the stories of the driver, Brett Thompson, and passenger, Michelle Green, and observed indicators of criminal activity.

Deputies searched the vehicle after Thompson said there was a personal-size amount of marijuana and found over 162 pounds of marijuana and THC waxes and oils, along with two handguns, two shotguns and thousands of rounds of ammunition, as said in the release.

According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, Thompson had been previously convicted of felony assault on a law enforcement in Florida, which prevents him from possessing firearms.

Thompson and Green were transported to the Iredell County Detention Center and charged with:

  • Two counts of felony trafficking marijuana
  • Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled substance
  • Felony manufacture a controlled substance
  • Felony conspiracy to traffic narcotics
  • Felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance

Thompson was also charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
