Fresh from the release of recent single ‘ Madwoman In The Attic’, Sable continues to reveal music from upcoming EP ‘English Literature’ in stunning new offering, ‘Emily’. Showcasing intricate production, thoughtful songwriting and dreamy vocals, the track is another exciting offering from a surefire artist to watch. Speaking on the track, Sable states:

For teenagers, I think falling in love can feel like an act of defiance. It’s a moment you step away from childhood and move closer to the person you imagine you might become. Emily, named after the ever-iconic Emily Dickinson, is about the giddy throes of a young romance. It’s about tumbling head over heels for someone who probably won’t stick around, and not really caring, because being with them – even for a matter of weeks – feels like a glimpse into some great, bright future.

Touted by LA Weekly and booked by California House staples Dirtybird and Day Trip, RaeCola have immediately made an impression since debuting behind their first EP, Berzerk, in July. Today, they’re releasing their latest single, “Bounce,”which offers a more melodic side of this vibrant, colorful duo.

Gyasi Ross blends hip-hop lyrics and R&B/Soul vocals with acoustic guitar, delivering a unique sound that has been described as a cross between John Legend, Jason Mraz and The Roots. Ross, originally from the Bay Area and now based in Los Angeles, is set to release his latest single, ‘Different’ with CatBeach Music on November 4, 2022. Produced by Bobby Hartry, ‘Different’ tells the compelling story of a young black kid, growing up with the racial and cultural tensions typical in urban USA. A personal story, Gyasi uses his lyrical acoustic hip-hop style to paint a picture of his life, while building the tension that he felt as the song progresses into an earthy and soulful tune with a rock edge. ‘Different’ ultimately crescendos into a declaration about the hope that can be found in this life.

His first defining moment occurred one day, in Pasadena California, in a smoke filled room with high school gangsters, musicians and poets.  Gyasi recalls, “I idolized my brother and his friends as they created music in circle, they called it a cipher. I was a fly on the wall in the 7th grade and desperately wanted to participate. At the time I didn’t understand how. My voice didn’t move or sound the way theirs did and I nearly gave up.”

In high school he was tricked into joining the marching band by a friend who asked, “Hey can you come up to school and hold some instruments?” I went to a predominantly African-American school and most students didn’t play music so the band director did all he could to make the marching band look full.

Not the type to fake anything, he started taking jazz trumpet lessons from Nolan Shaeed, an amazing trumpet player who was the musical director for Marvin Gaye. From there, he transitioned to guitar and hasn’t put it down since. After graduating from San Francisco State with a BA in Jazz Guitar and World Music from San Francisco State University, Gyasi released two studio albums, “By Any Means” and “If You Really Knew Me.”

His latest single “Different” is a song but also a message that I’ve written to my younger self. ‘Different’ is me giving younger me advice about how to navigate the world as a black person growing up in America. The music video features a series of tableaus based on life experiences I’ve had,” confides Gyasi.

Gyasi’s diverse influences include: John Legend, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, The Roots(Black Thought), Dashboard Confessionals, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Pass, and John Coltrane.

Emerging from Vancouver Island, Canada, Xana is an emerging pop powerhouse. Her command of pop music keeps her songwriting enthralling, as her blissful vocals glide across the most intimate storytelling and worldbuilding. It’s her intoxicating vibrance that sets Xana apart, as she encompasses themes of LGBTQ romance, female empowerment, sex positivity, self-reflection, and discovery across her flourishing repertoire.

Following the success of her debut album, Xana is back with her next single “bet you’ll get off on this”. Since connecting with producers Liam Moes and Shane Stephenson at the beginning of 2020, her musical endeavours have taken off. Finding inspiration in various different styles of music, Xana’s experimentalism thrives, as she dips her toes into whatever she’s connecting with at that moment.

Her next single explores the moment you realize you were wrong about someone. Across her discography to date, Xana’s purely enthralling authenticity shines brightly, and her latest single is no exception. Lyrically, “bet you’ll get off on this” is completely stipped down to the blunt,  hard truth; no sugar coating, no embellishments. The tender tones of an acoustic guitar and intimate vocals draw the listener into vulnerable, personal revelations. Met with the haunting strings, melancholy slide guitar, and the slight lyrical change at the end to “all we ever did was try to love you” sung with a crowd of tired voices, Xana really drives her point home.

Hoping to make people feel more connected to their emotions, Xana encourages her fanbase to embrace their truly authentic selves. She confides, “It’s so beautiful to see them fiercely be themselves and form friendships and relationships with each other. Music that brings people together is the most successful, and I’m so grateful to share this space with them.”

Garnering humbling support from several Spotify editorial playlists like New Music Friday Canada, The Locker, Fresh Finds Pop, Ready to Rock and Limelight to name a few, her music video for “Kitchen Light” has surpassed one million views on Youtube. With streams surpassing 20 million on Spotify alone, Xana continues to be a trailblazer of her time.

American singer-songwriter and inventor THOMAS TRUAX has joined forces with infamous drummer Budgie for “Everything’s Going to Be All Right”.

An eerie post-punk track that sees sharp spoken-word vocals, atmospheric guitar wobbles and reverb-drenched tremolo descend towards a catchy chorus that sees Truax bear his upbeat rock’n’roll teeth, “Everything’s Going to Be All Right” is taken from a new album ‘Dream Catching Songs’ (due January 2023).

Initially recorded in Berlin before being completed in Birmingham, the eclectic new track sees Truax — who has become known for his self-made musical contraptions — bring another of his inventions to life. Mother Superior is a motorised mechanical drum machine made almost entirely from recycled parts, and the machine features on the track alongside esteemed English drummer Budgie, best known for his work with Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Slits and The Creatures.

A bizarre and buoyant cut of outlandish beats and offbeat idiosyncrasies, Thomas Truax explains of the track:

“The scene is a kitchen full of ‘beautiful losers’, crowded around a messy kitchen table, wrestling with current circumstances and celebrating comfort in friendship. There are references to William Shatner’s ‘real space flight’, Coco Chanel’s old flat, and characters from my fictional world ‘Wowtown’”.

Acclaimed musician Saint Joshua completes his trilogy of EP releases with his highly anticipated ‘EP3’. The release of the 4-track opus includes the recently revealed ‘Even If We Don’t’, alongside lead single ‘Trip’ and a carefully crafted selection of 2 other previously unreleased tracks, ‘Love Game’ and ‘Where Did It All Go Wrong’, that entwine together to take us on a journey of self-reflection and emotion surrounding the world of relationships, dating and self.

STREAM/DOWNLOAD: SAINT JOSHUA – EP3

Hotly tipped as ‘one-to-watch’ and gaining a wealth of national and international support, South-Londoner Saint Joshua continues to emerge and astound with the delivery of consistently captivating music. Since the release of ‘EP2’ in May, he has garnered over 2 million streams, 200,000 monthly Spotify listeners, ‘Track Of The Week’ at both BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra and been selected as a beneficiary for PPL Momentum funding by PRS Foundation. Perhaps such positive reactions have quietly helped to give him the confidence to delve further into the talent and soul that lies within him, as on ‘EP3’ we’re invited to share the most vulnerable and intimate side of Saint Joshua that we’ve seen so far. Unravelling emotion surrounding relationships, and the often-impossible world of dating, Saint Joshua explores a beautiful account of his own struggles and lessons that are extraordinarily poignant and relatable.

Rozette (Jenn Beaupré) is a Calgary based singer/songwriter and international vocal coach who has been sharing her big, powerful and technically masterful voice across North America for the past decade. During this time, she has appeared on Canadian Idol and Stampede City Sessions, performed at the Vancouver Olympics, opened for the Moscow Ballet, won the Calgary Stampede’s Most Promising Young Artist Award, and sang the national anthem at several NHL games. Jenn’s vocal style is bold, agile, and eclectic—think Bette Midler meets Norah Jones with a splash of Katy Perry. Though she counts the late soul-folk artist Eva Cassidy as one of her main influences, modern artists like Adele, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Emili Sande, and Lauren Hill inspire and inform Jenn’s work. None of this, however, should suggest Jenn’s style is ad-hoc or derivative. After studying for several years under a classical voice teacher, Jenn decided to pursue pop music. Along the way, her unique style, along with her charisma and energy, has garnered substantial praise. Canadian Idol judge Sass Jordan said, “I love Jenn Beaupre — what a firecracker!” With the grit of Gaga, the attitude of Pink and the old-soul maturity of Adele, Jenn is a captivating stage performer.

Currently, you will find Jenn (AKA Rozette) all over tiktok and social media with her vivid and entertaining short form videos. She’s also digging up her soulful, piano-laden roots with her forthcoming EP, “Roze Coloured Glasses”.

On the verge of a major moment, Atlanta’s hottest rising artist, buzzing rapper, and Slaughter Gang member 21 Lil Harold ignites a new single and music video entitled “Damn” [feat. G Herbo] today.

Listen to “Damn”—HEREWatch the video—HERE.

The track exudes trap intensity in between punchy 808s as 21 Lil Harold serves up woozy, yet immediately quotable bars. This record is one of Harold’s most personal and vulnerable records as he revisits childhood trauma and seeks a path to redemption. G Herbo counters with his sharp and scorching signature flow. Together, they unite the Midwest and the South on one undeniable and unstoppable banger. Directed by Diesel Films, the visual finds these two talents shining on screen together, locking into palpable and powerful chemistry as they rap without apology. Surrounded by friends in the clip, they walk down the street and spit to the camera, projecting confidence and swagger.

“Damn” maintains his momentum on the heels of “Robbin Season,” picking up steam on streaming services already. Upon impact, HotNewHipHop proclaimed, “The ATL native is known for explaining his tough life experiences through music. Delivering massive bars over bass-thumping beats is the route he usually takes, and his most recent release falls into that category.

Back with more heat, RIAA-certified platinum singer/songwriter John K shares a new two-pack bundle of singles “Be Alright” and U Sometimes” today. Listen to “Be Alright” and “U Sometimes” HERE via Epic Records. Watch the official music video for “Be Alright” HERE.

“Be Alright” hinges on a sunny bass line, coasting along on a funkified bounce. It builds towards a bold and buoyant refrain as promises, “We gonna be alright. In the accompanying visual, he spreads a little joy around the neighborhood before inspiring a cinematic dance routine complete with equally bubbly choreography in the rain, no less. Meanwhile, “U Sometimes” layers bright keys above a glitchy beat as John K croons, “Give me one more night with you alone, can you stay?” It unfurls a lovestruck and lush anthem.

These songs only pave the way for more music to come very soon.

Primed for a North American takeover, award-winning South African rap disruptor Sho Madjozi unveils her U.S. debut single and music video “Toro” [feat. DDG] today via Epic Records. It also stands out as her first recording in English. Listen to “Toro” HERE and watch the music video HERE.

The track formally introduces the United States to this international force of nature. Over a high-energy and unpredictable Amapiano beat, she launches into a kinetic flow, dipping in and out of the production with proclamations such as “It’s my time, and I’m gonna decide how I use it” and kickstarting a rapid-fire cadence. Meanwhile, multiplatinum Detroit phenomenon DDG rolls through with a quotable cameo of his own. In the accompanying visual, Sho Madjozi engages in a high-stakes underground dance-off complete with downright incendiary choreography and no shortage of energy.

About the song, she commented, “‘Toro’ is short for ‘Mtoroki’ meaning an ‘escaper’. I’ve escaped bad managers, bad lovers, and sill come out as me. I even defy convention because I say and do what I like. However, this music video is part 1 of this story. The thing around my neck stands for my gift—the thing that has given me my success. The video makes a statement about how isolating fame can be: how friends, manager, etc., have back-stabbed me. By the end of this video, I’m disillusioned with fame and wishing I didn’t have this gift at all because it’s made me lose touch with closest to me and probably even myself.

Minneapolis-based songwriter, Mayyadda (May-ya-duh), will hit the stage at the world famous Lincoln Center as a part of prolific writer and advocate Mahogany L. Browne’s final Seen, Sound, Scribe series of 2022. Over the past year, this series has delivered thought-provoking and politically driven evenings of spoken word, readings, and presentations of original work. R&B artist Mayyadda will close out the evening of festivities by performing songs from her latest release TRY&REMEMBER. This concert is free and open to the public, find more information here.

TRY&REMEMBER, out now, packs a therapeutic punch as the artist self-reflects on her life over the past few years. Written as a melodic journal, Mayyadda unapologetically takes on arduous topics including love, life and what it means to heal.

Understanding the risks of publicly sharing a level of vulnerability that is usually left unsaid or behind closed doors, Mayyadda throws caution to the wind as she evokes every emotion throughout this 13 track album. The songwriter explains “this album is the documentation of an intense three year excavation and subsequent re-membering of myself.” She continues, “I worked with new collaborators, old collaborators in new ways, tried new roles and techniques in the songwriting and recording processes and I am proud that this is my most vulnerable, risk-taking work to date.”

Describing herself as a storyteller from the perspective of a queer Black woman, The Vision EP takes form via five stunning, genre-bending gems which brings listeners on a journey with Ayoni as she seeks curiosity, connection and sincerity. The theatrical twists and turns of each song’s production offers a welcomed unpredictability, instilling a largely cinematic effect to the music – with all of Ayoni’s lyrics coming from lived experiences and “the divine spirit.”

Offering dynamic musical moments in the electro-gospel of “Before I Prosper” – which Ayoni recently performed at the coveted LA showcase School Night – closing track “Vision” displays a funkier, more upbeat vibe to Ayoni’s genreless artistry, effortlessly fusing pop hooks with funk grooves and roaring guitar riffs which she describes as “a manifestation song.”

Born in Barbados but now splitting her time between LA and London, Ayoni grew up bouncing around Singapore, Indonesia and America – something she frequently draws on to guide her musical journey as both a young, Black woman and an immigrant.

Racking up millions of streams with co-signs for her music coming in strong from the likes of V Magazine, DJ Booth, Popsugar, Our Culture and NPR, Ayoni’sacclaimed debut project Iridescent preceded a breakthrough moment taking part in the Black Lives Matter movement with her poignant single “Unmoved (A Black Woman Truth)” – cementing Ayoni’s presence as a bold new artist unafraid to confront raw truths in her music.

From a young age, I’ve always been pretty focused on going after my dreams, which I’ve learned also comes with a lot of sacrifices. As much as I don’t regret any of the decisions that I’ve made to get here, every now and then a little voice inside my head questions has this all really been worth it?

And if everything falls apart, will anyone be there to catch me? Or have I sacrificed too much? This song was written about one of those conversations that I had with myself, and acknowledging my fears yet blowing past them.

Listen to “Catch Me” on your preferred streaming platform.

Watch the official music video on YouTube.

Some of the lyrics reference a conversation I had with my Grandpa years ago. I was living in the Niagara Region, not really doing anything productive, and he told me that I was meant for more than that and that I didn’t belong there. He could see that in order to achieve my dreams I would need to leave home. His words have stuck with me through every decision I’ve made, and as much as I miss my family, I know they understand what I’m trying to accomplish.

Unfortunately, my Grandpa passed away in the summer of 2020 and never had the opportunity to hear this music project, but I carry his ashes with me in a necklace and have him tattooed on my arm so that he’ll always be with me as I keep moving forward.

Thank you for listening,Jennifer of Evil Tongues

Emily Henry is a DC-based singer-songwriter who performs her own personal brand of elegant, emotional indie pop. Known for her powerful yet sweet vocals and an authentic musical instinct, she has been compared to artists such as Joni Mitchell and Sylvan Esso.

In the upheaval of 2020, Henry took her music to the wide world of livestreaming and has built a strong online community on Twitch.tv, where she hosts live concerts three times a week for a growing audience from all over the world.

As a child, she began writing songs as soon as she was old enough to communicate. Enthralled with reading, storytelling, and fantasy, young Emily Henry would write melodies to the poems and lyrics recited by her favorite characters.

Her debut EP, Matchsticks, brilliantly showcases Henry’s angelic vocal strength while taking her music down a slightly darker, more mysterious road. The songs of Matchsticks unearth the complex emotions hidden inside stories both fictional and true, the spoken and the unspoken, in the little moments and in the big, transformational turning points — all done with a light folk-infused touch and a razor-sharp pop sensibility.

Emily Henry’s sophomore outing, The New World, is an eight-track collection of dynamic pop songs oozing with an atmospheric haze. Finding inspiration in “stories about love and magic and what it means to be a person,” the full-length album is “all about vulnerability and connection, feeling your way in the dark toward something new,” says the songwriter. The result is a brilliant collection of enrapturing tunes that gained critical acclaim from the likes of Earmilk, who called her music “deeply mesmerizing”, and LADYGUNN, who said Emily Henry has “a flair for strong visualizable songwriting”.

Her latest single “How It Feels” is a celebration of falling in love, inspired by the romance between the main characters of the queer pirate rom-com Our Flag Means Death. She confides, “It’s a love story between two middle aged men, both of whom are finding something good and real for the first time in their lives. Their fumbling romance is sweet, awkward, hilarious, and deeply relatable.” The pop track was completely funded by her dedicated Twitch community and is out now.

Ryan Hicks makes melodic, cinematic, alt-pop music – as if Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, and Fleet Foxes made music for David Lynch. Hicks is a singer- songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Regina, Saskatchewan. He cites influences as Ron Sexsmith, Father John Misty, and David Bowie. In addition to over 20 years of experience in music performance, he has both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education.

To date, he has released three full albums and a Christmas single, and his music has been featured on Sirius XM and CBC. It has also charted on campus and community folk charts throughout Canada.

While studying vocal performance at the University of Regina, Hicks maintained a tenor position with the U of R Chamber Choir, winning numerous national awards, including the CBC National Choir Competition, and the title of Chamber Choir of The World in Eistedfod, Wales in 1997. He also spent fourteen years with the Regina Celtic Band, Squeeze of Scotch, performing at events such as The Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Squeeze of Scotch were also invited to score music for the 2008 CBC mini-series, The Englishman’s Boy. He is now a successful music teacher, experienced in writing and arranging choral and instrumental parts.

Hicks released his first album in 2014 and followed up in 2018 with the release of his self-produced record, titled Pulsing Colours. In 2019, Hicks released his self-produced LP, Dreams, which was mixed by Juno Award-winning producer, Philip Wojewoda (The Jerry Cans, Buffy Sainte Marie, Barenaked Ladies). The debut single, “Newport,” was featured on on Sirius XM’s North Americana Sunday Service and CBC Saskatchewan’s Weekend Edition.
