Amex Referral Bonus Increased to 30K Points
Update (Dec. 6, 2022) – More American Express cardholders are now seeing referral bonuses for 20,000 or 25,000 Membership Rewards points. Check your personal and business Amex cards to see if you have these increased bonuses in your accounts. This can be a great time to refer friends and family members to sign up for Amex cards. They get the signup bonus and you earn up to 25,000 points. Some of the best offers through referrals include the 150K bonus for Amex Platinum, and 90K for Amex Gold.

Update (Dec. 2, 2021) – American Express has now reverted back to the normal referral bonuses, from the limited time 4X offer. You can normally find referral bonuses as high as 30,000 Membership Rewards points. Check your personal and business Amex cards to see if you have these increased bonuses in your accounts. It can be a great time to refer friends and family members to sign up for Amex cards.
Update (Mar. 30, 2021) – More people are seeing this 30K referral bonus, plus the added bonus of +4 Membership Rewards® points per dollar on your eligible purchases at the following select U.S. home furnishing stores, on up to $25,000 in combined purchases for three months: Anthropologie – Home & Furniture, Bed Bath & Beyond, CB2, Crate and Barrel, Crate and Kids, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Terrain, and The Container Store. You can also use referral links to apply for the increased welcome bonuses that get you an extra $200 statement credit for many cards.
American Express has become pretty generous with referral bonuses lately. You can refer people to almost any American Express credit card, and you can get great bonuses as well. But as I’ve warned in the past, stay away from self referrals. American Express has clawed back these bonuses. Just have a friend or family member refer you, or vice versa.
Now some American Express cardholders are seeing some amazing offers in their accounts for inviting friends. Bonuses for some people have increased to 30,000 Membership Rewards points per each referral. The annual limit is still at 55,000 points per card. So now you can maximize it with just 2 referrals.

With the increased referral bonus, this makes every welcome bonus much better. The Amex Gold Card would be 60K plus 30K for example. Even Amex Platinum would be close to the best ever bonus with 60K plus 30K. It might even make sense to sign up for cards that are on the lower end of signup bonuses, such as Amex Blue Business Plus, which is a great product to have long term. Hopefully some of you are targeted, so you can refer your friends or family members.
