IHOP employee found dead inside kitchen at East Bay location, homicide investigation underway: sources

(KRON) — There is an ongoing investigation after a person was killed at an IHOP restaurant in Richmond on Monday afternoon, the Richmond Police Department announced on social media. Around 1:43 p.m., officers responded to the restaurant at 3401 Klose Way for “reports of an injured person.”

Richmond police arrived at the scene and located an individual suffering from injuries that “did not appear to be accidental,” the department wrote. The victim died at the restaurant, added police.

An IHOP spokesperson tells KRON4 the victim was a team member. According to KRON4 sources, the employee was found dead in the restaurant’s kitchen from a gunshot wound. Sources added the victim was a man in his 30s.

IHOP released a statement regarding the death of one of its team members.

RPD did not disclose how the person was killed. The department said Tuesday’s incident marks the city’s sixth homicide of 2025.

Detectives will continue to investigate the homicide. RPD did not announce any arrest(s) in connection to the incident.
