Howdy, Imgurians! Welcome to 2023.

We’re back with another edition of In Case You Missed It, our monthly retrospective look at the happenings in the Imgur Community. As always, we’ll cover a few community moments you may have missed, updates on bugs you’ve reported, and any new features that may have launched.

Let’s get started!

*Secret Santa*

Secret Santa 2022 is in the books, and it was one of our most rewarding years so far! 100% of Santas who requested backup matches received one. Even better, 96% of participants confirmed receipt of a gift, higher than any year before it.

With tens of thousands of participants from over 120 countries across the globe tasked to spread joy to others, the holiday spirit was out in full force. From custom glass dip pens to handmade stuffed animals, beds for our furry friends, and everything in between, you all helped us close out the year on a high note.

Good tidings to everyone who participated this year. You’re the reason for the season. We’ll see you next holiday!

*Community Mixtape*

Last year we started a new tradition. Once a month, on a Friday, we would ask for your sonic support and collect the titles of your favorite tracks for use in a massive mixtape. The top 50 tracks by upvote each month got added to the list. As a community, we had amassed nearly two days of continuous music by the end.

Earlier this month, we got a glimpse into what the community favored in a breakdown post. For 2023, the track collection will be a bit different. Rather than making things a free for all, each month is dedicated to a single genre. January’s genre was Electronic. Thank you to all listeners and contributors to the tracklist!

*Extra Life Avatars*

As an incentive to donate to the cause, custom Avatars were offered as a part of the Extra Life charity stream. These Avatars are available for all to use, so stop by the about screen to switch things up! Thank you to everyone who donated to help kids in need, and special thanks to @Technohawk, @Potatocheesmonk, @alan, and @TheLifeIsYours, who inspired the designs.

*Bottle Saga*

Sometimes, the simplest things bring the most joy. Imgurian @IfIToldYouMyUsernameIdHaveToKillYou showcases that fact wonderfully with the self-titled “Bottle Saga.” When a repair crew had left a bottle on a door handle, they decided to see how long it would remain untouched by their peers.

Days turned into weeks, and the bottle remained untouched. Seeing a perfect opportunity for some harmless fun, they decided to dress it up to celebrate the holidays as they passed. It’s a mystery around the office as to who the culprit is, and after nearly four months, it doesn’t look like the truth will come out any time soon.

Check out the latest Bottle Saga post here.

*Clean Your Desk*

Tidying your workspace can make for a tidier mind. We all fall into a rut sometimes, and decluttering your space can help to lift you out of a personal fog. Imgurians from backgrounds of all kinds shared their progress to the delight of onlookers. From workshops and garages to neon-lit game rooms, there’s something satisfying about seeing that before and after.

Check out all of the unique workspaces by visiting #Clean_Your_Desk.

*Accolades for the needy?*

Fortune finds us when we least expect it. For Imgurian @QuicklyThisWay, that fortune would come in the form of accolades. In a fun spin on a scene from “Liar Liar,” the nature of being tightfisted with accolades is played for a laugh. As the ultimate “I’ll show you” moment, the community showered the post with accolades totaling to over 90, setting a record as the most accoladed post in Imgur history.

Take a trip to the now legendary post.

*Car Problems Suck*

Car problems suck, and Imgurian @trogdoorburninator knows that better than most. As a way to pay it forward, they wanted to start fixing cars at cost for low-income families. Over time they started to do more and more, and said the feeling of helping others in their time of need was addicting.

This sparked an idea. Why not make fixing cars at cost a non profit company? After thousands of upvotes and hundreds of comments later, it was apparent that the community agreed. Imgurians offered advice on starting it up, things they would need to get it running, and a few even offered a helping hand in person!

Get up to speed on the non-profit in their latest update.

*Thank You Imgur*

2022 was a hard year for many. Last year, Imgurian @HibiscusQueen79 made a post venting into the void about troubles getting school supplies for her daughter. In a surprising turn of events, @TinyOctopus and many others came to her aid.

After an Amazon wishlist was made, the community came together to get her everything she needed and then some. In a series of Most Viral updates she shared her thanks for the overwhelming generosity of everyone who donated. Great job on making an impact, Imgurians!

*Art Crawl*

The 2023 Art Crawl came to a close on Monday, and with thousands of entries to consider, our judges had their work cut out for them. From repurposed retro tech to lifelike wood sculptures, photorealistic paintings, wood burnings, and everything in between, there was no shortage of creativity on display in our digital art gallery.

The 2023 Art Crawl had more visitors in one week than the legendary Louvre saw in the entire year in 2022. Now that’s some serious love for all things art!

Once again, our judges had the seemingly insurmountable task of selecting just three grand prize winners from those thousands. After a week of dutiful deliberation, the winners were selected. Congratulations to @claireleeartist, @acadianmushrooms, and @Patricbates on your victories! In addition to grand prize winners, six more pieces were picked for a second prize.

See more from the Art Crawl, and check out what the runners-up created!
