A MAN revealed how he bought a “purebred” Golden Retriever online for £23 but was left appalled when his new dog arrived in the post.

Liu, from China, excitedly purchased his fluffy new pooch – only to be sent something completely different.

After making the decision to get a pet, the man from Liuzhou, Guangxi, ordered a £23 pup from an online store named Pinduoduo on August 4.

As he eagerly waited for delivery day to arrive, nothing could prepare Liu for what was about to appear on his doorstep.

The dog-lover claimed that when he finally unboxed his new pet, it wasn’t a Golden Retriever that stepped out – but a tuogo, which translates to “native dog”.

The pooch has been dubbed a “meat dog” as it is a breed that is widely used as a delicacy in parts of China.

The eating of dog meat has been going on in China for centuries, and many people in the country are able to buy dogs online for slaughter.

Liu was left stunned as he plucked his new puppy from the black crate left outside his house and was confused at what exactly he had been sent in place of his Golden Retriever.

The brown pup didn’t have a thick mop of golden hair, but was instead dark, with a white belly and black snout.

But despite Liu’s new companion not being what he originally expected, his shock soon turned into excitement as he decided to keep the tuogo as his pet.

The tuguo, he said, would also be keeping its name of Golden Retriever.

In June, this year’s Yulin Dog Meat Festival took place with disturbing footage emerging of chefs preparing for the controversial event where thousands of pups would be consumed.

Campaigners from the NoToDogMeat charity arrived in Yulin, South East China, to document the slaughter and rescue as many dogs at they could.

It comes after one couple paid £1,800 for a purebred Pomeranian only to discover they were scammed in the sale.

The animal lovers claimed they were duped into buying a different breed in a dodgy deal, seeing them warn others to “do your research.”

Another dog lover who bought a purebred sausage dog was baffled after realising she was scammed in the sale.

Surprisingly, the dog’s shape started to differ from that of a sausage dog as it developed a head akin to a Jack Russell Terrier or could even pass as an Australian Kelpie.

A woman was also left stunned when she realised her purebred £1.7k goldendoodle puppy was not what its papers claimed it was.

And another bought a £3k purebred French bulldog puppy – which grew up to look shockingly different too.
