I love reading. Like love love love it. I’ve been a bookworm since about second grade when I got into Nancy Drew books, followed by all the Oz books by L Frank Baum and all the writers who continued after him. I used to go to the library regularly and take home stacks of books to devour.
Then I moved abroad to a place where English is not the spoken language, and the library system is far from good, no inter-library loans, and only a really small library where I live with very few books in English.
I started going to second hand book stores, but the price there added up quickly. I buy books online from places like BetterWorldBooks.com and BookDepository.com with cheap prices and free international shipping, but even that adds up.
So when I can get free books, that’s my favorite.
We have these little free “book stops” where people drop off books they don’t want and others take what they want, and they are terrific. They just aren’t so close to my house. So I only end up going to them when I’m in the area, and then I take home a bunch of books. I’m not so picky, and my taste in books is pretty broad, so it isn’t so hard for me to find books to read. When I’m finished with them, unless they’re one of my favorite authors or my kids’, I just return them there next time I am in the area.
Here are the books I got last time I was there.
My son has loved the books he read by Christopher Paolini (Eragon series) so finding one of the books in the series was terrific. I also found a fantasy book by R.A. Salvatore, an author I’ve loved since I was a teenager, but in a series I haven’t read yet. The novels Still Alice and Midwives seem interesting too.
I had a chance to read some of these books already. Shutter was a terrific mystery book by a Navajo writer. The Recruit was such a fun book that I want to read the rest of the books in the series. Tomorrow When the War Began was a great dystopian novel, and I want to read the rest of the books in the series. I’m a Tom Clancy fan, and the books American Traitor and Quake also seem like great thriller novels. Witches of Eastwick sounds like a fun fantasy read.
I’m curious to read the book about Obama. Not sure how much I’ll love Women Rowing North about women aging, but I’m interested to see how it is. Evicted is about poverty in America, and Beautiful Possible is a historical fiction book during World War Two, as is The German Girl. I tried the historical fiction book Ship of Brides, it was ok but didn’t captivate me, but might go back to read that if I run out of other books.
