HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) — The Huntington Beach City Council is supporting the proposed creation of a mural for conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The council held a special meeting Tuesday and unanimously approved exploring the project.
Now, an ad hoc committee that includes the city’s mayor will decide where the mural will go and how exactly it will honor Kirk. They will then return to council for a final vote.
Councilmember Chad Williams introduced the motion, saying he wanted to honor Kirk for standing for free speech.
The project is expected to be privately funded.
