After six seasons as head coach of the Bison, Larry Scott is heading to The Plains to be Auburn’s tight end coach.
WASHINGTON — Howard University football head coach Larry Scott has confirmed that he is leaving The Mecca to be the tight ends coach at Auburn University.
The Florida native spent six seasons as head coach of the Bison, leading them to two MEAC titles and the school’s first-ever appearance in the Cricket Celebration Bowl in 2023.
This season, he led Howard to its first victory over rival Hampton for the first time since 2014. During his time in the District, Scott compiled a 23-37 record.
This year, he led a defense that was one of the top 15 in the country. Under his guidance, redshirt freshman defensive back Zuri Watson was named a finalist for the 2025 Aeneas Williams Award.
In addition, two seniors, defensive lineman Noah Miles and offensive lineman Cesar Reyes, are headed to the 2026 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl.
In 2024, he helped nine Bison earn All-MEAC honors, with defensive back Kenny Gallop Jr., being named to the BOXTOROW HBCU All-America Team and Anthony Reagan Jr. earning FCS Football Central Freshman All-American honors.
Scott is no stranger to the SEC. He was the first black offensive coordinator at Tennessee in 2017 and also coached tight ends at Florida from 2018-2019, where he helped current Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts to a storied college career with the Gators.
He joins a staff led by Alex Golesh, who was named Auburn’s head coach on November 30. Golesh came to Auburn from the University of South Florida, where Scott played college football.
