Start by assessing your space. If it’s a living or dining room, you may want conventional drapery. In a kitchen or bathroom, Roman shades may be better.
If you decide on traditional curtains, think about style. Formal or modern? Pleats or no pleats? Whatever you choose should reflect the style of the room.
