When you give Pokemon items to hold in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, they can then use them in battle. Items will impart a variety of abilities or buffs to them, and it’s an automatic effect.
For example, the Covert Cloak can help your Pokemon avoid being affected by status effects. Similarly, the Mirror Herb will allow your Pokemon to mirror an opponent’s star increase one time as well as mirror Egg Moves.
Leftovers are an important item that may not seem like much, especially since their icon is that of an apple core that looks like it belongs in the trash. But they can slowly regenerate a Pokemon’s health points over time during battle. That could very quickly keep your Pokemon from passing out, and in turn keep you from losing battles.

How to Get Leftovers in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
First, head to the town of Cascarrafa to track down the Delibird Presents location you need to go to for Leftovers. Head to the northernmost path to the city, then go west to the location you see on the ground floor of shops. There, you’ll be able to peruse what Delibird Presents has in stock.
Leftovers are only found in this location. If you want to buy one, it’s a bit pricey at 20,000 Gold. You’ll need to buy multiple Leftovers if you plan on giving them to multiple Pokemon. Otherwise, you’ll have to equip and unequip Leftovers from your chosen Pokemon to change it out.
You are allowed to buy as many as you want. Just make sure you have enough cash to cover each purchase, as there are a variety of other things you’ll want to buy, too.
As mentioned, Leftovers will restore a bit of health periodically over the course of battle to the Pokemon holding the item.
This can take the place of Potions or similar healing items, meaning you’ll not only save some cash, but you’ll have a way to make sure your Pokemon don’t faint in the event you find yourself without anything to heal with.
