DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado is considered to have some of the highest income levels in the country, however, whether you’re making minimum wage or above six figures, the average resident is still billions away from being the richest in the state.
Forbes released its annual list of America’s richest people in 2025, which included nearly 400 people across the country, including five billionaires from Colorado.
While some data suggests Coloradans have some of the highest income levels in the country, the average resident’s net worth is nowhere near Colorado’s richest billionaire, a title that sits with Philip Anschutz, who has a net worth of $19.4 billion.
However, there is a little less of a gap with the other richest people in the state. The other richest people in Colorado include John Malone with a net worth of $11.3 billion, Mark Stevens with $10.5 billion, Charles Ergen with $8.2 billion and Pat Styker with $4.1 billion.
How far off you are from the richest people in Colorado
The United States Census Bureau estimated several categories of Coloradans’ net worth in 2023, from household to generation. FOX31 used the age of the householder, which includes equity in their homes, to see how far away people are from being among the top five richest people in Colorado, which would take $4.1 billion.
Here’s how you compare:
| Age of householder | Net worth | Amount needed to be one of richest in Colorado |
| Less than 35 years | $30,500 | $4,099,969,500 |
| 35 to 44 years | $143,700 | $4,099,856,300 |
| 45 to 54 years | $238,400 | $4,099,761,600 |
| 55 to 64 years | $309,800 | $4,099,690,200 |
| 65 years and over | $373,100 | $4,099,626,900 |
| 65 to 69 years | $390,200 | $4,099,609,800 |
| 70 to 74 years | $399,800 | $4,099,600,200 |
| 75 and over | $347,300 | $4,099,652,700 |
There’s about a $19 billion gap between the average Coloradan and the state’s richest person. Even among the top five richest people in the state, it would still take several billion.
So, for the average Coloradan to make Forbes’ new list of the richest people in the nation, it’s going to take a significant raise, or a winning multi-billion-dollar lottery ticket.
