Italy is home to one of the world’s oldest and proudest tailoring traditions. But over the final two days of Milan Fashion Week—as stars like Chris Pine, John Boyega, Andrew Garfield, Joseph Lee, and Brendan Fraser all stepped out for the Zegna and Prada shows—we got a glimpse at the no-holds-barred future of suiting, one that looked very different from the crisp, classical forms the country has made famous. There were jackets of all proportions: some boxy and oversized, layered over shorts and skirts; some fitted and shrunken, like The Strokes would’ve worn in 2002. There were flowy, pleated pants paired with tanks, with tees, with vests, with no tops at all. But most of all, there was expression—and hard proof that Italian tailoring is more vibrant, alive, and playful than ever.
