After Kensington Palace revealed that she recently underwent a surgical procedure, followers of the royal family have been wondering about Kate Middleton’s family’s response to her surgery. While it seems that Prince William is managing the situation as best as he can, their three children—Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5—have been grappling with the gravity of their mother’s recent hospital stay.

According to an insider who spoke to OK! Magazine, “They know their mom’s situation is serious, and it’s been really scary for them.” As for Prince William, 41, the future monarch is doing everything in his power to counteract their worries. “William is doing his best to manage their fears while also sharing his own feelings in a way that perhaps his own father didn’t do so well,” the source added, noting, “William is determined to take on all of the parental responsibilities while Kate is recovering, and it’s been the hardest job of his life.”

An official announcement regarding Kate’s surgery was made by Kensington Palace in mid-January 2024. “The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the official statement read. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

The palace also emphasized Kate’s decision to keep her personal medical information private at the time. “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private,” the palace’s statement continued. “Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.” As of now, the palace has only shared that Kate’s surgery was an abdominal procedure, but no further details have been disclosed.

Kate spent two weeks recovering at the prestigious London Clinic. The source who spoke to OK! shared that this period was reportedly “tough” for the princess, who was eagerly counting down the days until she could return to the comfort of her family home in Windsor.

“Obviously, she wanted to follow the doctors’ orders, but she just wanted to get back home so she could sleep in her own bed and be around her family again,” the source revealed. “She’s going to have to rely on a lot of help, not just from nurses and therapists but from loved ones as well. William is obviously worried about her, but he’s doing everything he can to stay strong for Kate so she can focus entirely on her health. He’s assured her that they will get through this together.”

As Princess Kate takes the necessary time to recuperate, the royal family — particularly Prince William and their children — are sure to continue showering her with all the support she needs. We can’t wait to see Kate back on her feet, all in due time!
