Haute & Freddy Reveal ‘Big Disgrace’ Album, Release ‘Dance the Pain Away’ – Culture Fix

Michelle Buzz and Lance Shipp are the theatrical synthpop duo Haute & Freddy. They have written for stars including Britney Spears and Katy Perry, and are now emerging as artists in their own right. The LA-based duo combine baroque carnival aesthetics with a fusion of influences ranging from Club Kid culture to contemporary pop. They now reveal their debut album, Big Disgrace, alongside the announcement of its release on 13 March, accompanied by the brand new single Dance the Pain Away.

With big 80s-style synths and soaring vocals, Dance the Pain Away is a moody groover that sees Buzz sing, “What’s in your heart / What’s in your way / Why don’t we dance the pain / Dance the pain away,” in a bold, anthemic chorus. The new single will be joined on the LP by previous releases Scantily Clad, Freaks, Shy Girl, Fashion Over Function, Sophie and Anti-Superstar, as well as six previously unheard tracks.

“‘Dance the Pain Away’ is a feeling we’ve been dreaming of capturing in a song,” share Haute & Freddy. “That bustling street, the grime of the city, the crowded dance floor, and that ready-to-forget-the-world kind of feeling. As soon as we laid down the verse synth and the sporadic bass rhythm, we were addicted to listening and trying to finish it. The chorus took so long to figure out, literally weeks. Then one magical day it all happened at once on the mic, and we were in shock at how good the song felt. It captured everything we were feeling: the overwhelming emotions, the chaos of how life can feel, and at the same time the ease of how it can all melt away for a little while when you’re dancing.”
