AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Amherst is gearing up for its annual Halloween Spooktacular on Sunday, October 26, featuring an afternoon of costumes, candy, and spooky fun for all ages.
The festivities begin with Downtown Trick-or-Treating from noon to 1 p.m., organized in collaboration with the Amherst Business Improvement District. Participating businesses will be marked by special flyers displayed in their windows.
Trick-or-treaters can pick up free paper treat bags and a list of participating locations starting Monday, October 20, at either the Amherst Visitor Information Center at 35 South Pleasant St. or the Amherst Recreation Office at 170 Chestnut St., Suite 1.
Following the candy collection, the Costume Parade will step off from the North Common. Participants should gather at 1 p.m., with the parade beginning at 1:15 p.m. The event invites people of all ages to showcase their creative costumes as they march through downtown.
The celebration continues indoors at the Bangs Community Center at 70 Boltwood Walk from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Families can enjoy a haunted house, a kids’ carnival, crafts, and a not-so-scary story time presented by the Jones Library.
The event is hosted by Amherst Recreation in partnership with the Jones Library and the Amherst Business Improvement District, and made possible through the support of community sponsors, including Lao Hu Tong, Amherst Innovative Living, Encharter Insurance, and Atkins Farms Country Market.
“This event is one of our favorite ways to bring the community together for a day of family fun and Halloween spirit,” said Becky Demling, Amherst Recreation’s outreach director.
