SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP0 – The Greater Springfield NAACP hosted its annual Freedom Fund Banquet at the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel, drawing nearly 300 attendees, including local officials and community members.
The event focused on promoting freedom, justice, and equality within the community, with the Springfield branch of the NAACP continuing its long-standing commitment to civil rights since 1918.
“It’s a responsibility of the community to support and to be here with the NAACP,” said Tony Taylor, a former member of the Greater Springfield NAACP.
“Everyone can be involved. It’s inclusive to everyone with all the needs of the community,” Taylor added.
“To be here and to be able to use my voice for the voiceless…or people who are too afraid to use their voice or people who simply look like me,” said Sara Bien-Aime, the first-ever emcee for the event.
“It’s important for our community to come together and support the NAACP’s mission,” said Tony Taylor, former member of the Greater Springfield NAACP.
The banquet celebrated those who advocate for others, with members, local organizations, and supporters in attendance.
The Springfield branch of the NAACP has been at the forefront of the struggle for civil rights throughout the region since its founding in 1918.
