A dog named Bailey has left the online commenters in stitches after a video of her playing fetch by herself up and down the stairs went viral on social media.
In the clip, shared Saturday on TikTok by the dog’s owner under the username Valbaratta, the gray Great Dane can be seen throwing her new toy down the stairs, then grabbing it and “creeping back” upstairs, stomping on every single step and “trying to be sneaky.”
The hilarious video comes with a caption that says: “Just a dog and her toy. It’s the stomping up the stairs for me. Oh, Bailey.”
Know as the “Apollo of dogs” because of their stately grace, Great Danes were first bred as boar-hunting dogs in the 1800s in Europe, according to the American Kennel Club. Daily exercise is a must for this big breed. They need about two brisk walks of decent length, although puppies have more energy and should be exercised accordingly.
Great Danes are taller than most other dogs, as well as people when standing on their hind legs. Their coat comes in different colors and patterns, perhaps the best known being the black-and-white patchwork pattern known as “harlequin.” Although they are very sweet dogs, they are good home guardians.
They also are great family dogs and quite patient with children. As people pleasers, they make friends easily.
They have a life expectancy of eight to ten years, with some living only six or seven years, and a lucky few reaching the ripe old age of twelve. They are also prone to quite a few health conditions that can shorten their life span, including bloat, cardiomyopathy, joint & bone disease, and thyroid problems.
The TikTok video quickly attracted animal lovers from all over the platform, gaining over 1.8 million views and 321,100 likes so far.
One user, Ava Himsel, commented: “The way she goes back up the stairs! She’s trying to be sneaky.” And ILikeTurtles said: “Why do Danes do stairs so weird? mine just barely controls the fall down with soooo many farts and then only touches 2 steps on the way up.”
BonesMonkey said: “It’s the tappy taps up the stairs that got me.” And Marlie Lund wrote: “omg… it’s her tiny steps she takes down and [up] that are killing me. Lmao.” Allirugg joked: “A tip toe-ing horse…so graceful.”
Another user, Shane Ziemblicki, pointed out: “The fact that she could skip like 4 steps with each step and chooses to touch each step is hilarious.” And Nicole Whelan said: “Every. Single. Step.” Brandy added: “The pitter-pat up and down the stairs.”
Corsicle joked: “The way she creeped back up the steps like as if you saw nothing guys!” And Bright_Beyond said: “y’all don’t mind me, just comin’ to grab this real quick! As you were hehe.”
Newsweek reached out to Valbaratta for comment and could not verify the details of the case.
