(KRON) — A woman who allegedly stole $7,000 in cosmetics from a Vallejo business was arrested after a GPS tracker inside one of the products led authorities to her location, the Vallejo Police Department said Monday.

Police responded on December 14 at around 5 p.m. to Plaza Drive on the report of multiple cosmetic items that were stolen from a business. Staff provided officers with a detailed description of the suspect and her vehicle, and told officers that one of the products contained a GPS tracking device.

Officers monitored the GPS tracker location and learned the suspect was traveling on Interstate 80 toward San Pablo, Vallejo police said. The San Pablo Police Department was advised of the suspect and located the vehicle.

Two occupants of the vehicle were detained as officers searched the vehicle and uncovered the stolen merchandise inside, according to Vallejo PD.

“Further investigation indicated that the same suspect was involved in a similar retail theft at the same business two days prior,” VPD said. “Surveillance video from both incidents showed her selecting items throughout the store, concealing them in her bags, and exiting without making any payments.”

The driver was released from the scene. The suspected retail thief was identified as a San Francisco woman and was booked into the Solano County Jail.
