MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by and pinned under a vehicle in Malta on Monday, per State Police. A Glenville woman, Morgan Lange, 33, was also arrested on several charges following the crash.
Troopers reported responding to a parking lot on Hemphill Place in Malta after hearing a pedestrian was struck and pinned under a vehicle around 10:15 p.m. on Monday. The Malta Stillwater Fire Department aided in removing the pedestrian from under the vehicle before the victim was taken to Saratoga Hospital with serious injuries.
Law enforcement said the driver, identified as Lange, attempted to remove and dispose of an open alcoholic drink that was in the vehicle immediately after striking the pedestrian, but she stayed on scene and contacted emergency services. Lange was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular assault, tampering with physical evidence, driving while intoxicated, and other vehicle and traffic law violations.
Lange is accused of having a 0.12% blood alcohol content when she was tested at the Saratoga State Police Barracks. She was released with a Malta Town Court appearance scheduled for Thursday.
State Police reported that the pedestrian was transferred to Albany Medical Center from Saratoga Hospital and remains in critical condition. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
