The “Wicked” movie will star Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo

Brace yourself for an enchanting cinematic experience as the beloved Broadway musical, “Wicked,” takes center stage on the silver screen. After captivating audiences for two decades on stage, “Wicked” embarks on its long-awaited cinematic journey, promising to be a defining cultural event of the year.

“Wicked” unfolds the untold tale of the witches of Oz, featuring Emmy, Grammy, and Tony-winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, a young woman ostracized for her unique green skin, who is yet to realize her true potential. Grammy-winning artist and global sensation Ariana Grande takes on the role of Glinda, a popular and ambitious young woman, yet to uncover her genuine self. Their unlikely friendship blossoms at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz, only to face a critical turning point after an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, sending their lives on diverging paths.

Joining the stellar cast is Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as the regal headmistress Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, a charming prince, Tony nominee Ethan Slater as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student, newcomer Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Elphaba’s beloved sister, and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.

Helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu, known for his work on “Crazy Rich Asians” and “In the Heights,” “Wicked” marks the first installment of a two-part immersive cultural celebration. The film is set to enchant audiences when it opens in cinemas on November 27, with “Wicked: Part Two” slated for release in 2025.
