If you aren’t a dedicated movie buff, it’s going to be hard for you to think of horror movies that involve casinos. In most cases, this location is reserved for movies such as:

  • The iconic James Bond movie – Casino Royale
  • Comedies like the Hangover series and The House
  • Dramas such as Casino by Martin Scorsese

But, there are several horror flicks that are based around, or involve casinos. And there are probably more of them around than you think. In this blog post, we will look at three such horror movies involving casinos. For people that are looking for good fast pay casinos, check out this list of instant withdrawal casino UK, which offers instant payouts without complications.

Three Best Casino and Gambling Movies in the Horror Genre

What are the best casino and gambling movies that you should watch if you like the horroe genre? Here is our list! And if you want more lists like this one, we recommend you check out our expert guest author, Ella Houghton’s profile by clicking the link here

Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

Gamers and horror film enthusiasts will be very familiar with the Resident Evil series. The video game series started with the original title in 1992, while the movies started releasing in 2002.

The original Resident Evil series managed to release six movies, while a 2021 reboot was also put out, named Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. ‘Extinction’ is the third movie in the original six, and is based in Las Vegas. Famous for its casinos, the post-apocalyptic Vega strip is decrepit and almost unrecognisable.

The cast features returning lead actor Milla Jovovich, Iain Glen, Oded Fehr and Ali Larter. Written by Paul WS Anderson, the movie follows the typical plot laid out in the Resident Evil series. For those unfamiliar, it involves a set of zombie apocalypse survivors who are looking to save others, and uncover a conspiracy along the way.

Being based on a video game franchise, expect to see a lot of great action sequences in the movie.

Remains (2011)

The 2011 movie is based on Steven Nile’s comic book of the same name. It has earned a 4.2 rating on IMDb, and has a ⅖ score on Letterboxd.

After the destruction from nuclear weapons forces the apocalypse, zombies are introduced to the remains of America. The story features a small group of people hiding inside a fictional Reno casino waiting for zombies to inevitably attack.

There is a considerable portion of the movie that involves gambling, with the survivors playing cards for a lot of the movie. Remains was a direct-to-tv movie produced by NBC’s Chiller channel, which features a rather unknown cast. The only person that you might recognise from beforehand would be Lance Reddick from John Wick and the Wire.

The horror part of the movie has been deemed ‘non-existent’ by a lot of the critics. However, it does feature zombies and the post-apocalyptic world, which integrates a horror element by default. The 2011 movie was directed by Colin Theys, and features Anthony Marks, Miko Hughes, Tawny Cypress, Evalena Marie and Grant Bowler alongside Reddick.

13 / Tzameti (2005)

For those who like watching movies in international languages, French-Georgian movie Tzameti, which is Georgian for ’13’, is a fine watch.

The movie centres around gambling with one’s life – the game of Russian roulette. The protagonist and hero, Sebastien, is shown as a poor immigrant construction worker living in France.

He comes across a sealed envelope with the chance to change his life. And following the instructions inside the envelope, he finds himself in an isolated cabin in the woods. Here, a deadly syndicate is conducting a gambling tournament. Russian roulette is a game where players take guns with one bullet in them and shoot at their opponent. In the movie, spectators place bets on who will stay alive in each round.

As you can tell, the plot is super exciting and is gripping till the end. Tzameti also won prizes at the Sundance and Venice Film Festivals in 2006. An English remake of the movie was released later, featuring Jason Statham, 50 Cent, and Mickey Rourke. However, the original is better in almost every way, which is what we recommend.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for the best movie in terms of the critical performance, you can’t go wrong with Tzameti. However, Resident Evil: Extinction and Remains are decent options as well.
