The manufacturing industry is a prime target for the clean energy transition because they are large energy consumers. But the shift to renewable energy sources will not happen with an on-off switch — it will take time for renewables to become more reliable and efficient. Right now, it can’t compete with natural gas on either front. Natural gas is a foundational fuel that will carry our state through the energy transition and keep the economy, particularly manufacturing, running.
