With Welcome Aboard, an acrylic on canvas work from 2005, Wu created the painting for the cover of a humorous in-flight magazine for an imaginary spacecraft, the WSFS Armadillo. The magazine debuted at the 2005 World Science Fiction Convention in Glasgow, Scotland. The spaceship depicted in Welcome Aboard is modeled after the Scottish Expo Centre where the convention was held, a building that is nicknamed — yep, you guessed it — “Armadillo.”

Derelict, which Wu constructed with acrylic, pencil, wood, and melted hot glue on a canvas board also in 2005, was created for the cover of the Spring 2005 issue of The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Bulletin. To create the dimensional effect, Wu covered wooden skewers and a pencil with hot glue, then applied paint on top.
