A team from Richmond, Va., got up bright and early Monday morning for the drive to North Carolina. The destination: The Garysburg Lowe’s distribution center, where their mascot had been found after weeks of in-person and social media searches.
Fans and friends from a Richmond Lowe’s launched a campaign, including a $2,000 reward, after Francine the cat slipped onto a truck and disappeared Sept. 18. They lobbied the Garysburg location, enlisted animal control officers and created an Instagram account (@wheresfrancine) to help find their furry friend.
Finally, on Saturday, there was a sighting. Francine’s face was spotted on surveillance cameras near the Garysburg distribution center.
There, volunteers set out snacks in hopes of luring the wayward feline into a trap. Once she was contained, Lowe’s associate Wayne Schneider and Store Manager Mike Sida set out for the rescue mission.
With Francine snug in a carrier, they returned her to Richmond.
“We care for Francine so much, and we’re so thankful for everyone who helped, from our associates to animal control and our neighbors,” Sida said. “She’s more than our store cat – she’s part of our family.”
