Four hospitalized after being rescued from capsized boat off Cape Cod

Four people were rescued from a capsized vessel in the waters off Yarmouth late Saturday night, according to Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois’ office.

One of the people rescued was in critical condition, with the other three in serious condition, the Hyannis Fire Department told the Cape Cod Times.

The ship became disabled and requested assistance from local authorities before it capsized. Sea Tow USA, a boat towing service, responded alongside members of the Hyannis Fire Department, and officers from the Barnstable and Yarmouth police departments.

During the towing process, high wind speeds and seas of about four to five feet caused the vessel to begin taking on water. It soon capsized, and four occupants fell into the ocean, authorities said. Galibois’ office was notified at 11:39 p.m.

All four people eventually boarded the Sea Tow boat, and one was transferred to a Hyannis Fire Department ship for necessary medical aid. Rescuers were battling “challenging seas and winds,” Galibois’ office said.

All four people continued receiving medical aid after the boats docked in Hyannis. They were brought to a local hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
