Folsom High School threat suspect arrested again after being seen on elementary school campus, police say

(FOX40.COM) — The Folsom Police Department is taking steps to ensure the safety of students on school campuses after parents shared concerns following claims of a man on a campus on Monday.

FPD said officers received reports around 2 p.m. of a man who was not permitted on the campus of Gallardo Elementary School.

Police said it was a non-student day, but there were still people on campus for other activities.

Officers swept the area, determining that the person was no longer present.

The investigation identified the suspect as Curt Taras, 53, who was arrested in September for allegedly making threats to Folsom High School while possessing a gun and a high-capacity magazine.

Officers arrested Taras for violating a court order and booked him into the Sacramento County Jail.

According to FPD, online claims that Taras was armed on Monday are false.

The departments addressed families’ school safety concerns and said they are taking action, as children’s safety is their top priority.

FPD said their plans include:

  • Extra officers deployed to schools
  • School Resource Officers continue their regular presence
  • FPD working with FCUSD to ensure a safe environment for all students and staff

Taras is expected in court on Friday.
