Five Years Later, Janus Is Decimating Government Unions

Government unions are hemorrhaging members and money – despite their claims to the contrary. That’s the reality on the fifth anniversary of the Supreme Court’s historic decision in Janus v. AFSCME, which came down in June 2018. The court gave public sector workers the freedom to stop paying union dues and fees, ruling that forced membership and financial support violates the First Amendment right to free speech. While government unions often give the impression that workers are unwilling to leave, in reality, many have already bolted.
