Firefighters stop grass fire along Vasco Road



BYRON — Firefighters managed to contain a grass fire late Wednesday along an East Contra Costa roadway, authorities said.

Around 10:20 p.m., firefighters learned of reports of a brush fire along lanes of Vasco Road near Camino Diablo.

Flames from the blaze, dubbed the Camino Fire, were visible from several miles away, according to at least one California Highway Patrol report.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews responded, and arrived to find about 10 to 15 acres burning along both sides of Vasco.California Highway Patrol officers also responded to assist with traffic control near the fire.

By shortly after 11 p.m., firefighters managed to contain the blaze but expected hot-spot extinguishment efforts to last into Thursday morning.

There were no reports of injuries or threatened structures, and a cause was still under investigation late Wednesday.
