Firefighters battle fire at tire resale shop in northeast Houston, HFD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Flames could be seen ripping through what firefighters say was a tire resale shop in northeast Houston on Wednesday morning.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the fire at around 3 a.m. near Liberty Road and Mesa Drive, where intense smoke and flames filled the air.

An ABC13 crew saw at least one vehicle at the scene completely destroyed by the flames and said it appeared that several tires were on fire.

The fire department said crews kept adding additional resources to tap out the fire, adding that hazmat was called out due to concerns of environmental damage.

HFD said “there was nothing environmentally dangerous” once testing was done.

Houston police initially said they expected the fire to burn for the next several days; however, HFD said it wouldn’t be burning that long.

In an 11 a.m. update, HFD said crews were spraying down the fire and should clear out soon.

No injuries or fatalities were reported in the fire, which HFD says remains under investigation.
