At around 11:39 a.m., a white Toyota Camry was traveling east on Obanion Road
approaching South George Washington Boulevard in Sutter County, while a white semi-truck pulling double dump trailers loaded with dirt was driving south on South George Washington Boulevard. According to CHP, the truck approached the intersection of Obanion Road at about 55 mph.
A witness told CHP that the Toyota failed to stop at the stop sign for Obanion Road and entered the intersection. The driver of the semi-truck attempted to stop. However, the front of the semi-truck crashed into the driver’s side of the Toyota. The force of the crash pushed the Toyota into an orchard on the southeast corner of the intersection.
CHP said the woman was killed on impact, and the right front passenger, a man, sustained major injuries. Both people had to be extricated from the vehicle. The passenger of the Toyota was transported by Bi-County Ambulance to Adventist Health + Rideout Hospital.
The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured and remained at the scene, according to CHP. Drugs or alcohol were not considered a factor. South George Washington Boulevard at Obanion Road was closed for over two hours.
