On Friday, Ezra Miller pleaded guilty to unlawful trespassing of a Vermont home. They must pay a $500 fine and serve one year of probation.
In May, the embattled Flash actor was accused of entering a neighbor’s house in Stamford, Vermont, and stealing bottles of alcohol from the home. They were initially charged with trespassing, felony burglary, and petit larceny, however, the felony burglary and petit larceny charges were later dropped. According to Variety, had Miller been convicted of the dropped charges, they could have faced a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
Per Variety, Miller appeared in person in a courthouse in Bennington, Vermont, and accepted a plea deal to avoid jail time. Miller agreed to 41 conditions as a part of the deal, including abstaining from alcohol, submitting to random drug tests, and a commitment to continue seeking mental health treatment.
Ezra Miller’s attorney provided a statement to Variety.“Ezra Miller pled guilty this morning to a misdemeanor unlawful trespass in Vermont Superior Court and accepted the conditions imposed by the court. Ezra would like to thank the court and the community for their trust and patience throughout this process, and would once again like to acknowledge the love and support they have received from their family and friends, who continue to be a vital presence in their ongoing mental health.”
The Vermont arrest is one of many controversies that Miller has been wrapped up in recently. Miller was arrested twice in Hawaii, first for disorderly conduct and harassment and then for second-degree assault. (Miller pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $500 fine, and as part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped the harassment charge.) Despite the controversies, Miller has reportedly been shooting scenes for Warner Bros.’ The Flash film is set to hit theaters on June 16.
In August, Miller apologized for their behavior and said they would undergo treatment for their mental health. “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” said Miller in a statement. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe, and productive stage in my life.”
