There are officially 201,180 EV charging ports available for the public statewide. According to the California Energy Commission, this is 68 percent more EV charger ports than the number of gasoline nozzles statewide.

“With this expanding public network, EV chargers are becoming ubiquitous in California,” CEC Commissioner Nancy Skinner said. “Our goal is to make driving an EV a no-brainer choice for Californians. They are fun to drive, never need an oil change, don’t cause smog, and it’s getting easier to charge your vehicle with public EV infrastructure.”

Grocery stores, parking lots and gas stations are home to many of California’s publicly available EV charges. CEC stated that shared chargers can also be found at apartment complexes, workplaces, sports facilities and other parking areas. Beyond public and shared chargers, approximately 800,000 chargers have been installed in single-family homes.

Newsom released that there are 20,093 charging and hydrogen fueling points for medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles across the state. Since February, charging and hydrogen fueling points have increased by 23 percent.

Since 2000, greenhouse gas emissions in California have decreased by 20 percent. Newsom also stated that the state was powered by two-thirds clean energy in 2023, making California the largest economy in the world to achieve this level of clean energy.
