Erving Police investigating alleged school threat

ERVING, Mass. (WWLP) – The Town of Erving Police Department is investigating an allegation that a student threatened another student at the Erving Elementary School.

According to Erving Police Chief Robert Holst, the police were alerted to the threat and began an investigation with the Northwestern District Attorney’s office and other state and local agencies. The type of threat was not identified.

Below is the statement issued by the Erving School Union and Police Department on the town’s website:

On behalf of Union 28 and the Erving Police Department:

Yesterday April 22, 2024, we became aware of a threat involving an Erving Elementary School student.  Sergeant Paicos took immediate action and began to work with the School and other outside agencies to ensure the safety of all the students.

After speaking with the involved parties, it was found that this threat occurred prior to April School vacation and continued over the vacation week. Action was taken by the School Monday morning when students began to arrive.

The School Administration, School Committee, and Police Department will continue to work with the families involved to resolve this issue.  Due the amount of time that elapsed from the time of the threat and notification to the Police, we would ask that all families take the following steps:

• Speak with your child and encourage them to immediately report all potential safety concerns to you, School staff or members of the Erving Police Department.
• Share any and all information with us regarding potential threats.
• Have a conversation with your child / children about their use of social media and continuously monitor that use.

Our primary concern is to maintain the safety of everyone in the community. It is vital that everyone understand that if you see something please say something.
