It’s no secret that we at The Honey POP love Emily James. You’ve seen us talk about her before, and you’re about to see it again. Just last year, she released her debut EP, Illuminate, via Nettwerk Music Group. But the rising indie-pop singer has no intention of slowing down. She recently released a new single, ‘Happy For Me,’ along with a music video for it. We’re obsessed. It has a fun, upbeat, and positive vibe that we can’t get enough of. Not only that, but we love the message behind it.

“Happy for Me is about wanting to stop letting anxiety get in the way of your joy…I wrote this song for anyone who needs reminding (myself included) of how important it is to celebrate yourself and not to let worrying take you out of the present moment.”

Emily James

The music video perfectly captures the message of the song. The music video starts out with Emily James at a party all by herself. Parties are supposed to be happy, right? Well, you can see the unease and apathy on her face. We wonder why, but then it clicks when we hear the lyrics, “Cause I’m overthinking it, over here thinking why can’t I see what they see? I wish I could be happy for me,” You can see her struggle throughout the video, but by the end, she lets go of all her self-doubt and truly celebrates herself. And well… we’re Happy For Her! It’s what she deserves. You can watch the music video below.

The song itself is truly inspiring, and having the music video bring it to life makes it even more powerful. This song should definitely go on your motivational playlist. We know we’re going to add it to ours.

When you’re done playing that song on repeat (it might take a while, we know), you can check out more of her amazing music here. Not sure where to start? Check out our review of ‘Birds of Prey.’
