Elton John ended up in a hospital after a fall at his home in France on Sunday night, but the pop star is already on the mend at home.
A representative for John told People Monday that the 76-year-old had a “slip” at his Mont Boron villa near Nice, France, and was hospitalized at Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco on Sunday. John was kept overnight and sent home in the morning.
“Elton visited the local hospital as a precautionary measure,” the rep added. “Following checkups, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back at home and in good health.”
John took another fall in 2021 and needed to postpone the rest of that year’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour dates to 2023 as a result. In a Twitter statement that September, the five-time Grammy winner said he “fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since.”
He added: “Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving.”
In an interview on the British morning show “Lorraine” that November, John said that he had hip pain “most of the time” and couldn’t move sideways or get in and out of a car. The decision to postpone the tour dates “had to be made because I wouldn’t want to go on stage and give less than 100 percent,” he added.
John finished the nearly-five-year Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Stockholm this July, with Billboard reporting that the concert series had grossed $939.1 million. That tally made Farewell Yellow Brick the highest-grossing tour in the history of the magazine’s Boxscore reporting, though Taylor Swift and Beyoncé’s current tours stand to cross the $1 billion threshold.
And though John has vowed that he’s done touring, he’s not done making music. “I’ll be recording a new album very soon, and I can’t wait because I haven’t really recorded a proper record for a long time, so I’m looking forward to doing that,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in June.
