Elon Musk expressed ‘concerns’ after Kanye West’s tweet was slammed as antisemitic

Elon Musk, the somewhat begrudging potential new head of Twitter, spoke with pal Kanye West amid controversy over posts the artist shared on social media over the weekend.

“Talked to ye today & expressed my concerns about his recent tweet, which I think he took to heart,” the Tesla tycoon said Monday night.

Musk’s comment comes after West was booted from Twitter for using the platform to express his ire toward the Jewish community. The tweet in question remained online for only an hour before it was flagged and removed for violating Twitter’s rules.

“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE,” West wrote Saturday night. “The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.”

The Grammy-winning rapper tweeted for the first time in nearly two years a day earlier, shortly after he was locked out of Instagram for remarks that were similarly blasted as antisemitic. His account was restricted after sharing a now-deleted screenshot of an iMessage exchange in which he accused Diddy, or Sean Love Combs, of being controlled by the Jewish population.

The conversation was sparked by West’s new apparel, which features the slogan “White Lives Matter.”

“I didn’t like our convo,” Kanye said. “I’m selling these tees. Nobody can get in between me and my money.”

When Combs asked him to stop selling the tees, West responded: “Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me.”

Upon his grand Twitter return Friday night, West called out Mark Zuckerberg and Meta, the company that operates Instagram, for giving him the boot.

“Look at this Mark,” he wrote above an image of them doing karaoke. “How you gone kick me off instagram? you used to be my n—-.”

And Musk was quick to welcome back his pal.

“Welcome back to Twitter my friend!” he wrote.

Musk has repeatedly criticized Twitter’s policies monitoring hate speech, disinformation and online abuse. In April, he vowed to undo some of them after Twitter announced it had agree to sell the platform to him for $44 billion. The deal has been steeped in drama ever since, with Musk claiming Twitter officials failed to disclose the number of spam bots on the platform.

In July, he announced his intentions to scrap the deal, sparking a lawsuit from Twitter, and then his own countersuit. Musk has since agreed to go forward with the merger.
